End-of-Life Narratives

“Dignity Therapy” is a brief intervention in which a therapist sits with a dying person for one or two 30 to 60 minute interviews.  After these interviews, the therapist transcribes, edits, and creates a document for the person to share with others.  The document’s intent is generativity - the giving to future generations.  Important life events, wisdom, accomplishments, and meaningful experiences come together in this document.  The interview itself is an intervention intended to root the person’s sense of dignity as they face death.  If you have a loved one in hospice care or suffering from a grave illness, consider this brief intervention.
